Technology Stream
The technology stream will aim to simplify our existing technology infrastructure by: 1) decreasing the number of duplicate applications to reduce complexity and cost; and by 2) implementing an integration services platform to improve the accuracy of data across systems; thereby reducing the need for manual data re-entry and increasing the availability of unified data.
Through the consolidation of applications and the introduction of an integration platform, we will improve the flow and accessibility of our data, leading to more efficient processes and improved user experiences.
CURRENT PROJECTS
The project team continues to assess opportunities to standardize applications across the university and identify ones that are suitable for integration, migration or retirement. The objective of the application rationalization project is to establish a standard or common suite of applications that can support business functions in a consistent manner. Outcomes are to include improved support to end users, more seamless transactions and the ability to produce meaningful reports when required.

Nearly 1,600 technologies have been evaluated of which 140 have been identified as unused applications and are now in various stages of being decommissioned.
Some of the implications of decommissioning outdated or inactive applications include reducing our technology footprint in support of the university’s larger sustainability efforts, potentially reducing operating costs (such as with software licensing and personnel support to multiple applications), and improving security standards as there will be less risks and exposures from unused applications across the university.

We are in the latter stage of securing an integration services platform (ISP) that will enable us to better understand, structure and share institutional data among multiple platforms.
Factors that will be considered during this process include how the platform shares sensitive information in a secure manner, accesses data while mitigating breaches, supports the university's long-term data management and reporting plan and positions us for opportunities in artificial intelligence which relies heavily on the accuracy, consistency and reliability of data.
