SLIS student receives SLA Indigenous award

MLIS Student, Colton Whelpton
The School of Library and Information Studies extends congratulations to MLIS student Colton Whelpton on receiving the Saskatchewan Library Association's (SLA) Indigenous MLIS Student Award for 2025!
The Indigenous MLIS Student Award, valued at $5,000, is open to any person of Canadian Indigenous Ancestry (First Nations, Metis, and Inuit) enrolled in a part-time or full-time ALA-accredited Master of Library and Information Science graduate degree program or equivalent.
Colton is a member of the Tl'etinqox Government (Anaham) band, was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, and now lives on the traditional and unceded lands of the Musqueam people (Vancouver, BC). He serves as the Library Services Manager at the John Richard Allison Library at Regent College, supporting the diverse research needs of this graduate institution. Colton holds a MATS (2021) from Regent College and is currently pursuing an MLIS online through the University of Alberta.
