SLIS Students Selected to Present at 2020 eLearning in Libraries Symposium

SLIS is proud to announce that our students Teodor Dobre and Monica Mun have been selected to virtually present at the 2020 eLearning in Libraries Symposium. During their December 8th session Virtual Practicums: Unique Challenges and Opportunities they will share their experiences, perspectives, and challenges as MLIS students in completing a completely virtual practicum at the University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria. Their main focus throughout the practicum has been integrating practical hands-on learning and professional networking in the digital sphere. Monica and Teodor are both students in the Online MLIS program.

Teodor Dobre
Teodor is the European languages cataloguer at the University of British Columbia. Graduating this year with an MLIS, his research interests are focused digital services and online content management, as well as in aspects of leadership and management within libraries. Through the combination of studies and professional experience, he has developed a strong affinity towards work in metadata, digital archives and libraries, budget development and library-community relationships. Teodor also has a passion for history and has just published his first book, a history of ancient Mesopotamia and the Near East.
Monica Mun
Monica Mun is an MLIS candidate at the University of Alberta through the online stream. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Music History and Literature from the University of Victoria and has participated in various professional development programs working in the libraries of Victoria Symphony, Tanglewood Music Festival, and her most recent practicum at the University of Victoria Libraries. Monica has a wide range of research interests surrounding community engagement, 21st-century librarianship, and the role of libraries in social justice. As an early career professional, Monica is growing her presence in the field through participation in groups such as the Future Librarians for Intellectual Freedom (FLIF) and the Pathfinder Journal.
