SLIS extends warm congratulations to our sessional instructor Sharon Farnel for receiving a prestigious 2019 Graduate Student Teaching Award from the University of Alberta Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. Sharon is an individual interdisciplinary doctoral student in SLIS and the Department of Education Policy Studies.
To be eligible, students must be in good academic standing and must be making good progress in their degree program, as determined by their department. Awards are only made to students who are considered outstanding teachers. Students whose teaching duties are outside their home unit shall be considered, for the purpose of adjudication, to be from the unit in which the teaching duties are assigned. Her nomination was for her teaching in the MLIS program.
Sharon was honoured on March 28 at the Faculty of Education Engage event celebrating excellence in research and teaching. Formal recognition of the award was made on April 11 at the Graduate Student Teaching Awards Celebration. SLIS is grateful to Sharon for bringing light to the significant contribution graduate students make to the University of Alberta's teaching mission, including in the MLIS program.
