The School of Library and Information Studies is pleased to announce that SLIS students Justin Fuhr and Ashley Panagapko have both been awarded scholarships from the Manitoba Library Association. Justin has been awarded the Jean Thorunn Law Scholarship and Ashley awarded the John Edwin Bissett Scholarship.
The Jean Thorunn Law Scholarship is open to Masters of Library and Information students (MLS/MLIS) who have worked in a Manitoba library (past 12 months) and who choose to pursue a graduate degree in library and information science. The John Edwin Bissett Scholarship is open to Masters of Library and Information students (MLS/MLIS) who completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Manitoba and are now pursuing a graduate degree in library and information science.
In addition, SLIS student Rachel Osolen has been awarded the Michael Silver Memorial Travel Award in Library & Information Studies from the University of Alberta. Rachel co-wrote a paper with Leah Brochu on the development of an assisted comic book reader for the perceptually disabled. This award helped Rachel present on their paper at a conference.
