Shirley joined SLIS as an Associate Professor in 1969. She served as Assistant Dean (1977-1979) and then as Professor until her retirement in 1987. Shirley's teaching areas included Public Librarianship, Children's Literature, and Storytelling. Shirley authored numerous publications and worked with several committees for the CLA and other professional associations. She was also actively involved with the Friends of the Edmonton Public Library and was instrumental in setting up LISAA.
Shirley is survived by her husband John Wright, an original faculty member of SLIS and Dean of SLIS from 1984-1987.
