Lorisia and Kirk
On June 14, 2017 the American Library Association (ALA) announced SLIS student, Lorisia MacLeod, as one of 60 Spectrum Scholars 2017-18, selected from MLIS candidates across North America. Lorisia is one of two Canadians chosen.
This important award provides financial aid, mentoring opportunities, free attendance to the Spectrum Leadership Institute in New Orleans, along with numerous other benefits and opportunities. The Spectrum Scholarship, in part, helps ALA to address the traditional under-representation of minorities in librarianship by providing selected students with support, education and training to promote their long-term success. Lorisia is excited to channel those opportunities into her leadership and management vision.
The honour of being selected for this award has an additional special meaning for Lorisia as her father, Kirk MacLeod, is also a Spectrum Scholar (2012). Kirk is a 2014 SLIS alum. This makes Lorisia the first 'second-generation' Spectrum Scholar in ALA's history! SLIS is proud to witness history in the making and congratulates Lorisia on this inspirational achievement.
