Dr. Margaret Mackey appeared at the annual conference of the Northern Lights Library System. She spoke in Elk Point, AB, on September 18, on the topic of "First, Catch your Reader! Attracting and Retaining the Literary Attention of High School Students."
Victorian cookbook writer Mrs. Beaton famously began her recipe for Rabbit Stew with the stirring phrase, "First, catch your rabbit." Attracting the attention of high school students, in this era of ever-extending distractedness, is a complex project. This presentation will explore ways in which school libraries can reach out to students and engage them in an ongoing relationship with books, information, and social exchanges around reading. Both explicit and implicit approaches will be considered.
