MLIS student Maryna Chernyavska has been awarded a prestigious Joseph Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). Her work aims to explore Canadian folklore archives as a special type of cultural heritage institution. Maryna will explore how functions and information organization of folklore archives differ from more "traditional" archival institutions. This project will increase understanding of folklore archives as complex dynamic spaces and as active research centres that shape the body of the cultural heritage. It will also offer some guidelines and best practices for folklore archives managers who often have limited access to information training, people and financial resources. Maryna's research and thesis will be supervised by Dr. Ali Shiri.
SLIS congratulates Maryna on this significant and well deserved recognition!
