On Friday, February 8, SLIS hosted its annual conference Forum for Information Professionals with the theme of examining trends and changes in the profession. A high turn-out of library and information community and students came together to listen to Stephen Abram's keynote address and participate in a panel featuring Pilar Martinez of EPL, Geoffrey Harder of University of Alberta, and Stephen Abram of Dysart & Jones. Student presentation topics included services to immigrant women, provenance metadata, video games and comic books, advanced organization of images, institutional repositories, GIS, and library innovation. The day was capped by the launch of our own Dr. Ali Shiri's new book entitled "Powering Search: The Role of Thesauri in New Information Environments", and a reception held in Henderson Hall. Overall, this was an exciting and stimulating day for both faculty, students, staff, and the professional community.
