On Thursday March 1, Dr. Margaret Mackey presented the Gryphon Lecture in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The event is organized by the Youth Literature Interest Group at the Center for Children's Books (see http://ccb.lis.illinois.edu/gryphonlectures.html for more details about this annual lecture).
Dr. Mackey's talk was entitled "Grounding our Perspectives on Children's Literature" and addressed issues concerning the kinds of local understanding of the world that children bring to their reading experience and how such awareness may be altered by the digital revolution.
Dr. Mackey is serving a two-year term as an honorary research fellow at GSLIS in Urbana-Champaign.
