SLIS was one of the sponsors of PAGES, an all-day workshop on supporting readers through partnerships, held at Edmonton Public Library on October 15. More than 200 librarians, teachers, booksellers, publishers, literacy workers, students and others attended, including a number of SLIS students who also served as volunteers for the day.
Rachel van Riel gave a keynote address on why libraries have a greater impact when they shift their focus to readers rather than materials, and Ross Todd spoke on the importance of having a clear understanding of our digital future.
SLIS professor Margaret Mackey served as a member of the organizing committee, and also presented a lecture on "Big-World Readers."
The first PAGES workshop was held in November 2008, and this second instalment returned due to popular demand and courtesy of a generous grant from the Alberta government department of Municipal Affairs.
