Dr. Margaret Mackey recently presented a lecture on the subject of children's literature and commodities in the H.T. Coutts Education Library in the University of Alberta system. Entitled "Toys and Tie-In$," the talk drew its examples from various incarnations of Beatrix Potter's most famous character, Peter Rabbit. Dr. Mackey's examples of adaptation and commodification ranged all the way from the two Peter Rabbit Barbie dolls to the evangelical Peter Rabbit life-size puppet to the Peter Rabbit image designed to frame twin sonogram photos.
The lecture was organized to mark the donation of Dr. Mackey's large collection of Peter Rabbit items to the University Library.Children's Books and Commodities - a talk by Margaret Mackey
