Congratulations to Dr. Lisa Given on her promotion to Full Professor effective July 1, 2010 on the basis of distinction in research, teaching, and service.

Congratulations to Dr. Lisa Given on her promotion to Full Professor effective July 1, 2010 on the basis of distinction in research, teaching, and service. Dr. Given is recognized internationally as a leader in the field of information behaviour, qualitative inquiry and web usability. She has over 70 publications in reputable journals and books, including as Editor of "The Sage Encyclopedia of Qualitative Research Methods" (2008); she has also given over 215 presentations, including more than 45 plenary addresses and workshops for more than 1500 participants, world-wide. Dr. Given has received numerous honours and awards, including two Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) Methodology Paper Awards. She and her colleagues have received more than $1.95 million in research grant funding, from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and other agencies. She is an Adjunct Professor in Humanities Computing, a former Director of the International Institute for Qualitative Methodology and is currently Acting Director of the School of Library and Information Studies.

Dr. Given has a strong commitment to service. She is a former President of the Canadian Association for Information Science (CAIS) and was Secretary/Treasurer for the Board of ALISE. She has served on numerous conference program committees and the Editorial Boards of several journals, including "Library Quarterly" and "Library and Information Science Research." Dr. Given served a six-year term on the Social Sciences and Humanities Working Committee of the Interagency Advisory Panel on Research Ethics, as part of its review of and revision to Canada's national research ethics policy. She is currently a member of the Council of Canadian Academies' Expert Panel on Research Integrity, which will publish a report this fall on the research integrity landscape in Canada.
