Proposed Changes To The Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct For Research Involving Humans And Related Interpretations

The Panel on Research Ethics is soliciting feedback from the research community on four documents related to the interpretation and implementation of the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2 (2018)) 

The proposed revisions to the TCPS2 include:

1. Exemption from REB review for de-identified cell lines; and
2. Changes to the definition of human embryonic stem cell and the addition of a definition of totipotent cells.

The Panel on Research Ethics is also proposing changes to its guidance on:

1. Ethics review of minimal risk multi-jurisdictional research (research involving two or more TCPS2 compliant institutions)
2. The use of broad consent (consent for unspecified research, often related to biobanks and data repositories).
