Cross Cancer Institute

The Cross Cancer Institute (CCI), which is part of Alberta Health Services, maintains its own CCAC accredited animal care and use program and protocol review processes. Because of the many and close connections between the CCI and the University, particularly in cancer research, there are special arrangements in place to streamline animal use protocols approvals that would otherwise require two separate reviews.

University faculty in the Department of Oncology who plan to conduct their entire study at the CCI should apply to the CCI Animal Care Committee (CCI ACC). University faculty in the Department of Oncology who plan to conduct their entire study at HSLAS should apply to the ACUC Health Sciences.

Once the CCI ACC has approved an AUP, if the PI then wants to amend the study to include work performed in HSLAS, then the CCI will obtain input from the ACUC Health Sciences as part of its review process.

University faculty who are planning studies that will involve both HSLAS and CCI facilities should apply via ARISE to the ACUC Health Sciences. CCI ACC input will be obtained as part of the review process.

If a University faculty member already has an AUP approved in ARISE and wants to amend the study to include work performed at CCI, the amendment should be prepared in ARISE. CCI ACC input will be obtained as part of the review process.
