Animal Services Units

The Canadian Council on Animal Care stipulates that animal facilities must meet certain basic functional criteria in order to be in compliance with the spirit and intent of the CCAC. There are three animal services units at the University of Alberta that deliver all of the services noted below. Animal use protocols are submitted to the ACUC associated with the facility that will house their animals.

CCAC direction is provided to Animal Services Units with respect to matters such as:

  • veterinary oversight;
  • animal housing and husbandry;
  • animal acquisition, transportation and quarantine;
  • staff training;
  • biohazard, occupational, radiation and chemical safety;
  • development of SOPs etc.

For assistance in these areas, please contact the facilities directly.
