Research Assistants

Purpose

The Office of the Vice-President (Research & Innovation) recognizes that a research proposal requires hours of planning, organization, contemplation, and writing. To assist with the preparation of SSHRC and other research applications, the Grant Assist Program has available two highly qualified Research Assistants, all doctoral candidates (see our RA's biographical sketches).

The Research Assistants' role is to assist faculty with casual, time-bound tasks related to the preparation of a grant. Tasks related to their position may include but are not limited to:

  • data input and preparation related to the Canadian Common CV (CCV);
  • conducting literature searches, compiling bibliographies;
  • proofreading, checking references, and other tasks related to manuscript preparation;
  • assisting with research e.g. data collection, data analysis, lab work;
  • research related to preparing a budget (e.g. finding quotes for airfare, accommodations, research equipment, etc.); and,
  • assisting with preparation of materials required by research partners outside of the University.

The Research Assistants provide casual support to a variety of faculty members, and are neither intended to participate in a faculty member's research study for the life of the project nor be hired by one faculty member or department/unit for the duration of their appointment.
