Peer Review

Updated Dec 7, 2022:

Faculty applying to SSHRC competitions may have their proposal reviewed by members of the newly formed College of Social Sciences and Humanities' Panel of SSHRC Peer Reviewers

The College of Social Sciences and Humanities, in collaboration with the Research Partner Network, is inaugurating a standing Panel of SSHRC Peer Reviewers.

The purpose of the peer reviewer panel is to harness the expertise that exists in the Faculties of Arts, Education, Law, and the Alberta School of Business, for the benefit of all University of Alberta colleagues applying to external grant competitions in the humanities and social sciences, especially the SSHRC Insight Development, Insight, Partnership Development, and two-stage Partnership competitions. Participation is voluntary, but past experience shows feedback from an insightful reader, including from one not within your research field or unit, helps greatly to improve an applicant's chances of competition success.

The vast majority of this inaugural Panel of SSHRC Peer Reviewers are senior colleagues with prior experience on SSHRC Selection Committees. All have been nominated to the Panel by the faculty ADRs.

If you’d like an experienced peer reviewer to provide feedback on your SSHRC Insight Development application, please register (here) before December 16, 2022. You will need to have a high-quality, penultimate version of the application, formatted as a single pdf, by the exchange deadline of January 5, 2023.

Key dates (all submissions by noon of the day):

December 16th '22: Deadline to register for SSHRC IDG peer review.
January 5th '23: Deadline to provide your final application to the Peer Reviewer.
January 13th '23: Date by which the peer reviewer will return your feedback to you.
