Working across sectors to have a positive impact on health, wellbeing, and sustainability.

The Centre for Healthy Communities is a research centre within the School of Public Health, University of Alberta. As applied public health researchers and practitioners, we are uniquely positioned to engage people from across disciplines and sectors to have a positive impact on health, wellbeing, equity, and sustainability.

Our history

Growing out of the rich and long history of the former Centre for Health Promotion Studies, in 2017, the School of Public Health Dean, Kue Young, launched the Centre for Healthy Communities. The launch of the Centre for Healthy Communities provided a timely and important opportunity to enhance existing partnerships and collaborations, and to build new relationships with a broader mandate that extended beyond health promotion to help communities thrive.

Funding

The Centre for Healthy Communities received seed funding from the School of Public Health to help work with our scientists and practice affiliates to develop our vision, mission, and values, core communications, collaborations, and our governance structure.  The Centre is primarily funded through partnered projects and centre-initiated projects.
