Freeing up students for community involvement
Students in the School of Public Health are eligible for an award that will ease the load of financing their studies.
The School of Public Health 10th Anniversary Graduate Award, currently valued at $700, is made possible through a generous gift from benefactors Douglas and Jane Wilson to honour and celebrate the School's 10th anniversary.
The award recognizes the broad talents that students possess-beyond their performance in the classroom. In particular, demonstrated leadership and community involvement that supports others will be important in determining award recipients.
Doug Wilson is former dean of the Faculty of Medicine and former senior advisor to the dean of the School of Public Health. The Wilsons are avid supporters of the University of Alberta and its students and are active in the Edmonton community.
"We are extremely grateful for their support and are honored they have chosen to partner with us," says Kue Young, dean of the School. "Their endowed gift will, in perpetuity, have an impact on the lives of students."
