National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
26 September 2024
Psychology community members,
The Psychology Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee joins people across Canada in recognizing September 30, 2023 as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. On this day, we remember the longstanding, grievous, and systemic wrongs that have been perpetrated against Canada’s Indigenous peoples, and to acknowledge the current injustices, prejudice, and discrimination that Indigenous peoples still face.
We invite community members to wear their orange shirts on September 30th and October 1st.
We encourage you to take a moment and explore the following:
- Orange Shirt Day Information from First Peoples House
- National Day for Truth and Reconciliation events in Downtown Edmonton
- Wearing Orange to Heal, to Remember, and Build Collective Power
As a community, we must continue our work to answer the 94 calls to action outlined by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in order to forward the process of reconciliation. As members of the Psychology EDI Committee, we are dedicated to ongoing education, learning, and action. Our aim is to create accessible, inclusive, equitable, and anti-racist classrooms and work environments. We are here to support you and welcome any suggestions or concerns you may have.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Passey (Chair of the Psychology Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee)
