Financial Information
All supervisors are responsible for financial support of full-time graduate students (GRAF - Graduate Research Assistanship Fellowships) under their supervision. A GRAF will be available to assist thesis-based MSc and PhD students in completion of their graduate program. The GRAF may not cover the full cost of living and tuition fees. Once a principal investigator has agreed to supervise a potential graduate student, that supervisor is responsible for providing operating and stipend support for the student from their internal University of Alberta sources or external funding agencies. The department does not support stipends or tuition for graduate students.
It is the graduate student's responsibility to apply for appropriate internal or external funding, and it is the supervisor's responsibility to facilitate those applications in a timely fashion. For further information regarding awards and scholarships, please see Funding Opportunities. In cases where the scholarship value is less than the minimum stipend, the difference will be paid from the supervisor's grant.
Tuition and fees are to be paid by the student directly.
