Eye Institute of Alberta
The Eye Institute of Alberta (EIA) at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) is a University of Alberta teaching facility that trains residents and fellows to become eye specialists. Ophthalmologists provide eye care services to patients from Edmonton, as well as Northern Alberta, Northern British Columbia, Northern Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories.
The Outpatient Eye Clinic is the largest eye clinic in Edmonton which offers assessment and diagnosis of eye problems or diseases, medical and surgical treatment including cataract and retinal surgeries, eye muscle adjustments, corneal transplants, laser treatments, glaucoma diagnosis and treatment, and emergency care.
Patient Focused Eye Care
The focus of the Outpatient Eye Clinic is to provide the highest level of patient care, enhance education and research programs.
The clinic has been renovated in August 2018. This new appearance features an easier to navigate design and more welcoming environment for the patients. All aspects of the Outpatient Eye Clinic including design, services and facilities are focused around providing best accessible care to patients. The clinic is located in a central, wheelchair accessible area.
Education
Staff at the Outpatient Eye Clinic are committed to continuing education for physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, and the public. There is information available on a variety of eye conditions for patients and families to take home. A Residency Training Program is in place, training post graduate medical doctors to become eye specialists. As part of their commitment to the community, they provide first line emergency eye care, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. In addition to the Residency Training Program, the Outpatient Eye Clinic offers clinical experience, teaching opportunities, and resources supporting:
