The Irish language is being studied in universities and communities all over the world, and is one of Europe's oldest languages. The Irish courses in MLCS are supported by the Ireland Canada University Foundation (ICUF), and offer you the opportunity to discover the ancient Celtic linguistic and cultural roots of Ireland, while at the same time getting to know the modern world of Irish speakers and the progressive "new Ireland" of today.

IRISH 199: Discover Irish Culture: This class will explore everything about Irish Culture. Ireland is a country steeped in culture, through this class you can discover the beauty of Irish Music, the tradition of Irish dance, the poetry behind the Islands own language, literature from it's great writers, Gaelic sport that captivates the nations heart, the history of the Emerald Island, you can engage with Irish social media and see how a minority language thrives in contemporary society around the Globe. In this class you will not only learn about Irish Culture but you will have the opportunity to question, engage, define and discuss different aspects of the Island's heritage. We will incorporate modern resources such as film, YouTube, Twitter, TikTok and more to look at Irish Culture on a Global Platform. It's time to unearth what 'Irishness' is, what makes 'Éire' the country it is today.
Students of IRISH 111 & 112 will have the opportunity to apply for one of three ICUF scholarships to attend a three-week immersive Irish language course in an Cheathrú Rua, County Galway. More info here.
