Dr. Claire F. Fox, Fulbright Canada Research Chair in the Arts and Humanities (August-December 2024)
Claire Fox is a Professor of English at the University of Iowa. Her research and teaching interests include literatures and cultures of the Americas, US-Mexico border studies, Latinx studies, and visual culture studies. As a Fulbright Research Chair, she will be conducting research at locations in Alberta for a project titled “Cultural Placemaking at Museums and Heritage Sites Dedicated to the Extraction of Coal, Oil, and Gas.”
Dr. Xingang Qi, Visiting Professor (October 2024 – April 2025)
Dr. Xingang Qi is currently a Senior Lecturer of the Foreign Studies College at Hunan Normal University, and a postdoctoral fellow guest at the Department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies, UA. He also serves as secretary of the Center for Cognitive Science, Hunan Normal University. He received his Ph.D. from Hunan Normal University in 2023, with his dissertation exploring the diachronic changes of passive constructions in English and Chinese. His research interests mainly include cognitive grammar, diachronic studies of English and Chinese, and EAP.
Dr. Timur Mukhamatulin, Stuart Ramsay Tompkins Visiting Professor (Sep 2024 – May 2025)
Timur Mukhamatulin received his Ph.D. from Rutgers University in 2023. He is a co-author of the book Sovetskii Sport v Kontekstakh Holodnoi Voiny [Soviet Sports in Cold War Context], published in Russian in 2023.
His research interests focus on the histories of Soviet sports, Soviet gender order, and Soviet subjectivity. His dissertation covers the history of Soviet women’s gymnastics. He is currently working on turning his dissertation into a book.
Dr. Yong Qin - Visiting Professor; yqin15@ualberta.ca (July-December 2024)
Dr. Yong Qin is Chinese and achieved his Ph.D. degree in Applied Language Sciences from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He now holds a standing faculty position in the Department of English, Foreign Studies College, Hunan Normal University. Dr. Qin's research areas cover SFL, CDA, CL, Media and Communication, multimodality, and SLA. He published textbooks, journal articles, and monographs and also hosts research projects. Dr. Qin holds an executive council membership with IAHL (International Association for Hallidayan Linguistics). Under the guidance of Professor Odile Cisneros, Dr. Qin is currently performing his research plan “The Nature of Erosion and Its Effect on the Syntactic Iconicity of the –ing Clause”.
