Dr. John Eason has been awarded the 2019 Jan Chalk Contract Instructor Award. Dr. Eason is a full-time instructor of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Alberta since 2014. He also teaches two language courses: Swedish and Norwegian. His excellence is reflected on his teaching evaluations and student comments.
Dr. Natalie Van Deusen, MLCS Associate Professor and colleague, mentioned that Dr. Eason "is in his office, whenever he is not teaching, meeting with students to help them through difficult verb conjugation patterns, working on writing a textbook for Swedish directed towards Canadian students, and developing blended learning curricula for two languages. He stays up late making Lussekattar for his students for St. Lucia Day. He brings kanalbullar other days just because. In his office you will find photos of his class that his students have signed and framed for him, and a variety of other gifts that show how well loved he is."
