Dr. James Collip was an influential faculty member at U of A. When he first joined the university in 1915, he was a lecturer in physiology and biochemistry; by 1922, he held a full professorship in biochemistry. The University of Alberta placed Collip as Professor and Head of the Biochemistry Department, a position he held until he left the University of Alberta in 1927. He was also part of the team that helped discover insulin, and shared in Drs. Banting, MacLeod and Best's 1923 Nobel Prize in Medicine.
The Collip Club, named in honour of Dr. James Collip, has been running for over 25 years. All Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry clinical and academic faculty, students, residents, staff and their guests are invited to attend.
Attendees will be able enjoy a meal at the Faculty Club and listen to an hour-long lecture from medical researchers who are working within the Faculty. Please note that meals are not included as part of the lecture program and require purchase. Please note the price to RSVP and pay at the door is slightly higher than paying in advance.
