Dr. Yamamoto’s research lab (Climate Health and Environment Epidemiology Research - CHEER) focuses on health aspects related to climate change, air pollution, and psychosocial factors. As an environmental epidemiologist, she is particularly interested in investigating air pollution and climate change exposure, developing and exploring ways to capture climate change and air pollution-related vulnerability, and implementing and assessing climate change and air pollution interventions.
Dr. Shelby Yamamoto is an Assistant Professor in the U of A's School of Public Health. She has a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science and MSc in Occupational & Environmental Health both from the University of Toronto and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Heidelberg. Her research is cross-disciplinary and therefore includes team members with expertise in different fields. The ultimate goal of her research is to improve health by identifying potential approaches to foster resilience, develop adaptive capacity and inform mitigation strategies. She has won several teaching awards and was the School of Public Health's Diversity Champion for 2019.
