Integrating ideas, driving system change for healthier communities
Mission
To facilitate the development of innovative ways to collaboratively promote health and wellness across faculties and within the health system
Mandate
To lead and enable interprofessional education (IPE) and interdisciplinary research (IDR), the two areas that comprise the essential academic support for interdisciplinary excellence
The HSC recognizes the need for each health discipline to maintain autonomy and develop unique disciplinary strengths; we strive to address challenges and opportunities common to all health sciences disciplines. Collaborative efforts in these areas will be guided by the following principles:
- A strong collective voice for health sciences education and research
- A common voice representing the Deans' united view
- Collaborative decisions informed by the strategic priorities of both the Council and its individual member faculties
- Shared resources and generation of efficiencies
- Active participation recognizing that, depending on the initiative, not all will be involved to the same extent
- Breaking down barriers
The Council consists of a governing board comprised of the deans from each Health Sciences Faculty, the associate vice-president, research, and a representative of Alberta Health Services; an operational unit made up of academic and administrative staff delivers Council initiatives. The HSC Secretariat, an administrative and academic leadership team, reports to the Council on all activities.
