Changing Programs

Engineering Students Seeking Admission to a Different Program

This information is for students who are currently registered in a discipline in the Faculty of Engineering. If you are not a current Engineering student and you are interested in applying or transferring into the Faculty of Engineering, please visit  Admission Requirements .

Each discipline has a limited number of spaces, and qualifying year students are given preference in the admission process. Admission decisions for discipline changed will be dependent on available space in the discipline.

Minimum Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission into a different discipline, students must complete a minimum of eight graded courses from their current discipline over two terms, and present a minimum two-term GPA of 3.0. Courses completed outside of the current discipline are not included in the GPA calculation for admission purposes. Students must complete their degree program in the six-year time limit from the date of their admission into their original discipline.

In the case where all program space is full, special consideration for admission will be given to a student who completes the minimum course load, and has a minimum GPA of 3.5.

Programs not eligible for Transfers

We are not currently admitting students into the Chemical Engineering Biomedical Option, Chemical Engineering Oil Sands Elective, or the Electrical Engineering Biomedical Option.

Students currently in a Mechanical Engineering program will not be approved to transfer between two Traditional programs or between two of the Co-op programs.

Traditional to Co-op Program Transfers

Current Engineering students who have completed no more than two terms in a traditional program, may apply to transfer to a Co-op program. However this transfer may result in a significant extension of your program. There are an additional 5 WKEXP courses to complete (20 months total) as well as ENGG 299, which is a prerequisite to doing a work term and is only offered in the fall. Traditional to Co-op transfers are rarely granted. A minimum GPA of 3.5 is required for consideration but does not guarantee a transfer.
