Dr. Amy Kim is an Associate Professor of Transportation Engineering, in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta. Her research interests are in transportation networks and systems analysis, long-distance multi-modal transportation networks, and air transportation with a focus on airports. Over the last few years Amy has developed an interest in northern Canada's transportation issues, particularly the impacts of climate change on transportation. She received her M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley and her B.A.Sc. from the University of Waterloo in Canada. Prior to her doctoral studies, she worked in the transportation engineering and planning practice in both the U.S. and Canada. Her research has been supported by NSERC, Transport Canada, Alberta Transportation, Edmonton Airports, the City of Edmonton Office of Traffic Safety, Edmonton Transit Systems, and other organizations.
Research
My research interests include transportation systems analysis, transportation economics, air transportation, public transportation, and data analysis. Some of the topics I am currently working on include intercity transportation issues, use of new data sources for transportation planning, transit signal priority and transit networks, and resource deployment strategies for urban speed enforcement.
Prior to joining the U of A, I was a post-doctoral researcher and graduate student research at Berkeley, at the Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS), in particular the National Center of Excellence for Aviatio Operations Research (NEXTOR). I was also a student researcher at the California Partners for Advanced Transit and Highways (PATH). I have been funded by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), and Federal Highways Administration (FHWA) through the Dwight D. Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship Program.
