Operations

The CST has access to top researchers from multiple faculties and departments at the U of A and from other major institutions in Canada and around the world, including the University of California, Berkeley, Tsinghua University in China, and the University of Waterloo. Housed within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the Markin/CNRL Natural Resources Engineering Facility (NREF) building, the CST operates as a virtual centre, consisting of academic, government and industry partnerships, technical research and real-world infrastructure resources.

As one of those resources, the CST is developing Canada's first CV test bed: the ACTIVE-AURORA research circuit, which is a network of five on-road and in-lab test beds equipped and linked with CV technology. This research network provides an ITS testing ground and a multi-institutional collaboration platform to characterize the issues that limit the performance of existing technologies; develop models, simulation methods and experimental techniques to evaluate CV technology solutions; identify, demonstrate, adopt, commercialize and produce the best transportation and CV technology solutions; and support Canada in establishing CV standards and protocols.
