Book Discussion: The Making of Cossack Ukraine
28 November 2024
Esteemed historian Zenon Kohut’s The Making of Cossack Ukraine explores the evolution of early modern Ukrainian political thought and culture from the 16th century to 1714. It delves into how various political, territorial, religious, ethnic, and national visions contributed to shaping Ukrainian statehood as well as modern Russian identity, bolstering Muscovite expansionism and laying the groundwork for Russian imperialism. Kohut’s innovative analysis reveals the ideological origins of present-day Ukrainian political thought and nationhood.
