Webinar on Teaching About the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals in Ukrainian-Language Education Settings (Recording)

July 6, 2023 - The Ukrainian Language Education Centre held a webinar “Teaching About United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals in Ukrainian-Language Education Settings.”

Dr. Oksana Butkovska and Yuliia Popelyshyn, two visiting scholars from Ukraine hosted by ULEC, shared their experiences of working on this project under the supervision of Prof. Olenka Bilash.

In our research surveys and discussions with Ukrainian learners, young people report that they are interested in learning about Ukraine as a global actor in addressing important global issues, such as climate change, poverty, environmental protection, mental health, etc. In response, ULEC has been creating a series of engaging videos and activities grounded in UNESCO’s 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. Originally designed for use with upper beginner and lower intermediate level language learners, they have also been used in classrooms in Ukraine.

In the webinar, Dr. Oksana Butkovska and Yuliia Popelyshyn reported on their observations and experiences of piloting these materials in classrooms in Canada and Ukraine.

6 липня 2023р. - Методичний центр української мови (МЦУМ) провів вебінар на тему «Апробація навчальних матеріалів з української мови про 17 цілей сталого розвитку ООН». Док. Оксана Бутковська та Юлія Попелишин, дві запрошені науковиці з України, поділилися своїм досвідом роботи над цим проєктом під керівництвом професорки Оленки Білаш.

Результати наших досліджень вказують на інтерес молоді до України як глобального гравця при вирішенні таких глобальних проблем, як зміна клімату, бідність, захист навколишнього середовища, психічне здоров'я тощо. Щоб задовольнити такий інтерес, МЦУМ створює серію відео, в основі яких лежить порядок денний у сфері сталого розвитку до 2030 р. Розроблені для тих, хто вивчає мову на вищому та середньому рівнях, відео також були апробовані в школах в Україні.
