Webinar Recording - Displaced Writers, Diasporic Readers: A Bibliography of Ukrainian Children's Literature from 1945 to 2021
22 March 2023
On March 16, 2023 the Ukrainian Language Education Centre held an online webinar "Displaced Writers, Diasporic Readers: A Bibliography of Ukrainian Children’s Literature from 1945 to 2021" with researcher and children’s author Lesia Savedchuk.
The post-WWII Ukrainian diaspora was responsible for the publication of a sizeable body of Ukrainian-language children’s literature, which played an important role in helping to maintain national identity in the émigré community. With the support of the Ukrainian Language Education Centre and the Toronto Ukrainian Library Association, these publications are in the process of being compiled into a comprehensive annotated bibliography. In her talk, Lesia Savedchuk, a children's author, discussed the project, its progress, highlights, and challenges, and gave an overview of some of the literature's themes and their potential for elaboration by future scholars.
