Sanctuary Project

The Sanctuary Spiritual Heritage Documentation Project, carried out by Professors Frances Swyripa, John-Paul Himka, and Natalie Kononenko, documents Byzantine rite, primarily Ukrainian, sacral culture on the Canadian prairies. The project documented churches in the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. Photographs were taken of church buildings and external structures such as bell towers. In addition, the project photographed all items within the documented churches and conducted interviews with parishioners.

In 2019 a Google Map was added to each of these places to show the APPROXIMATE LOCATION of the sites.

In 2020 the website was expanded.
