Dr Dillane is excited to be part of the multi-disciplinary research team which has just been awarded a pilot project grant by the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society. AOFAS established this initiative to promote promising foot and ankle research projects. The research team includes Dr Beth Pedersen, Division of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr Derek Dillane, Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, Dr Lauren Beaupre, Departments of Physical Therapy and Surgery and Dr Martha Funabashi, Research Associate with Collaborative Orthopedic Research. This pilot grant was awarded for a project titled 'Development of best practices guidelines for pain management after elective foot and ankle surgery'. The study aims to investigate current practices for managing pain following elective foot and ankle surgery in Canada and the United States by means of a survey of AOFAS and COFAS members. This will be followed by establishment of a panel of foot and ankle and pain management experts to create best practice guidelines using consensus and available evidence.
