Programs

Undergraduate Medical Education Program

In conjunction with the Undergraduate Medical Education program, the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine offers anesthesia electives for 3rd and 4th year clinical clerks (both UofA, and non-UofA Canadian trainees). This clinical elective includes instruction by anesthesiologists in the operating and recovery rooms, and guided reading of relevant literature.

Postgraduate

Our residents are exposed to a diverse range of clinical settings as Edmonton zone hospitals are at the forefront of modern medical care. They serve as major referral centres in the areas of organ transplantation, pediatric surgery, cardiac surgery, high-risk obstetrics, trauma and neurosurgery. In addition, our dynamic faculty provide leading edge care in the areas of regional anesthesia, vascular and thoracic anesthesia and ambulatory surgery.

Family Practice Anesthesia

This one-year program trains family physicians to deliver anesthesia services outside of major urban centres. The educational objectives of the program are outlined in a national document that is in accordance with those developed by the Collaborative Committee for Anesthesia training for Family Practitioners (FP).

Fellowship Training

Through our fellowship programs our goal is to train fellows to become true experts in their field of practice. The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine offers eight fellowship training programs that combine exceptional experience in complex and challenging clinical anesthesia and pain medicine, and research opportunities. Come learn alongside our leading academics in some of the most excellent facilities in Canada.
