Margaret was an innovator whose contributions to nutrition and dietetics continue to this day. In 1953, during a time when higher education — particularly in the sciences — was out of reach for many women, Margaret received a master’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Alberta. She went on to open the lab at the first petrochemical plant in the province. Later in her career, Margaret dedicated her focus to human nutrition. She became a professor of clinical nutrition in the Faculty of Home Economics at the University of Alberta where she influenced the practice of two generations of Registered Dietitians. Margaret is fondly remembered for her warm, supportive presence in the classroom, her upbeat outlook, and her passion for food and nutrition.
