The Netherlands-Alberta connection

The Dutch have made very significant contributions to Alberta, beginning in the early 1900s when they played a pivotal role in building the province's agriculture industry. The ALES Centennial Dutch Endowment Travel and Experiential Learning Award provides an opportunity to support Alberta in taking the next step in enhancing its agricultural industries.

Support the ALES Centennial Dutch Endowment and help future leaders of Alberta agriculture by providing them with an opportunity to access international education at the higher learning institutions and industry in the Netherlands!

Alberta's opportunity

Alberta has a robust extensive agricultural base, while the Netherlands has developed a highly productive intensive agricultural industry through the collaborative efforts of several sectors of their economy: agriculture, energy, educators and government.

With its educated workforce, agricultural history, abundant farm land and entrepreneurial spirit, Alberta has an extraordinary opportunity to dramatically increase its agricultural output, both at the primary producer level and at the value-added level. Examining intensive agricultural practices from the world's second biggest agricultural exporter will help our province fulfill its potential and become an agricultural powerhouse, with an enhanced ability to produce and add value to agricultural products.

Once our students have gained this knowledge, they will return to Alberta and work towards increasing the productivity, sustainability and profitability of our agricultural industry.
