Environmental Health and Safety Reviews

Clinical research as well as research, teaching and testing involving animals may require approvals from Environmental Health and Safety related to radiation, chemical and biohazards. Biohazard approvals as related to ethics, are project-specific and are obtained through the University office of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS), one of six operational units within Risk Management Services (RMS).

Project specific information on chemical, radiation and biological hazards is collected as part of the ethics application smartform. Once the application is submitted, review and approval by EHS occurs in parallel with the REB or ACUC review and is also captured in the online system. Note that biohazard approvals for specific projects/ protocols are distinct from the biohazard approvals required for the lab/ facility.
