Program Features

The program will provide a unique mix of learning and action-oriented experiential opportunities including:

  • participation in the Action Learning Project and the LEADS personal mastery sessions
  • peer learning through small group work
  • support throughout the program from an experienced health system mentor and an academic advisor versed in policy worlds
  • interactions with speakers who are linked to health system transformation in Alberta and other Canadian jurisdictions

Content Areas

Participants will dive deep into the following thematic areas:

  • system thinking, leadership and health system performance
  • the political environment and managing the health system
  • optimizing health human resources
  • developing a quality culture
  • system transformation

Professional Continuing Education Credits

Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada — Participants can claim their credits in MAINPORT, under Section 2 - Formal Course.

College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta — Participants can claim the fellowship towards their annual Continuing Competence Program.

The College of Family Physicians of Canada — Participants can request Mainpro+ credits for involvement in the fellowship program under the Self-Learning, Certified option.

School of Public Health, University of Alberta — Participants who complete the fellowship program may, if they satisfy the regular admission standards, apply to one of our graduate degree programs. If admitted, students may be exempt from a number of electives.

Canadian Society of Physician Leaders — Physicians who complete the fellowship program may apply for their Canadian Certified Physician Executive (CCPE) credential.

Canadian College of Health Leaders — The School of Public Health is currently in discussion with the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) so that individuals completing the fellowship program will automatically obtain the Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation of CCHL. As part of this, we will make a LEADS 360 evaluation (required by CCHL) a part of the program.

Module 2: December 13 - 15, 2024
Module 3: February 7 - 9, 2025
Module 4: April 11 - 13, 2025
Module 4: June 6 - 8, 2025
