MACE Thesis-based Route
The thesis-based program option is open to both full-time and part-time students, and requires a minimum of two years for completion. It consists of three core courses (9 credits), three electives or equivalent (9 credits), a practicum (3 credits), and original research project and thesis (21 credits total).

- MACE 501- The Practice of Community-Engaged Scholarship
- MACE 502 - Theoretical Foundations of the Scholarship of Engagement
- MACE 503 - Methods of Community-Based Research
- MACE 560 - Practicum and seminar
Electives:
Some potential electives are listed below. For additional graduate-level courses consult the university calendar, but discuss course selection with your advisor/supervisor prior to enrollment to be sure it aligns with your program.
- MACE 551 - Engagement and Public Policy
- MACE 597 - Special Topics
This course will address current issues in community engagement. A variety of topic areas may be offered:
Indigenous Arts-Based Research and Practice
Engaging Communities in Social Entrepreneurship
MACE 598 - Independent or Directed Study
In collaboration with a faculty member, the student will propose a course of study to be undertaken.
