Dr. Greg Anderson received a DAAD/AICGS Research Fellowship and is currently in residence at the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies at Johns Hopkins University. During his two-month fellowship, Dr. Anderson will be exploring the contemporary conditions affecting trans-Atlantic trade. While agreements like Canada's recent free trade pact with Europe signal a continued interest in trade liberalization, and in establishing legal protections for foreign investors, the populist and protectionist impulses that led to Brexit and to the election of Donald Trump work at cross-purposes with the liberalization move. Dr. Anderson's research wades into this conundrum and its consequences for the future of trans-Atlantic economic relations.
