National Recognition
Thomas J. Marrie, Professor Emeritus and former dean of the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, will receive an honorary degree from Dalhousie University this June.
Martin Moran, Department of Family Medicine, is the co-recipient of the Dr. Peter McCracken Award for Leadership in Medical Education at the recent Canadian Geriatrics Society Annual Conference in Montreal.
Anna Oswald, '00 MD, Department of Medicine, received the Canadian Association of Rheumatology (CRA) Teacher-Educator Award.
Lewis Kay, '83 BSc, Department of Biochemistry, received the prestigious Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering, which includes a $1-million research grant.
Specialty Awards
Malcolm Young, '69 MD, Department of Emergency Medicine, Received the Dr. Garnet E. Cummings Lifetime Achievement Award.
Doug Klein, Department of Family Medicine, was recognized with a Community Champion Award at Central McDougall's Volunteer Appreciation Lunch and Award Ceremony on April 15, 2018.
Xiaoli "Lilly" Pang and Linda Chiu, Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology, and Bonita Lee, Department of Pediatrics, were recognized with the the 2018 AHS President's Excellence Award for Outstanding Achievement in Innovation and Research Excellence. As members of APPETITE (Alberta Provincial Pediatric EnTeric Infection Team), a study funded by Alberta Innovates in collaboration with the University of Calgary, they are one of three teams to receive this recognition.
Michiko Maruyama, cardiology resident and MA candidate in Industrial Design, made the top 25 shortlist in the SSHRC storytellers contest.
Teaching & Education Awards
Aws Alherbish, Department of Medicine, received the Emergency Medicine Outstanding Off-Service Teacher Award.
Joanne Norum, Emergency Medicine, received the Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award.
Alsha Olmstead, '14 MSc, Department of Emergency Medicine, received the Brian Holroyd Academic Leadership and Professionalism Award.
Michael Bording-Jorgensen, Department of Physiology, is the winner of the FoMD Graduate Student Teaching Award.
