Congratulations to the FoMD's alumni, staff and students on your outstanding achievements this summer.


James Silvius,'84 MD, is the 2017 recipient of CMA's Dr. William Marsden Award in Medical Ethics, for his exemplary leadership in the creation of Alberta's physician assisted dying framework, which is now being replicated in other provinces. Read more.

Amil Shapka, '90 DE4, '78 SC1, is being honoured with the 2017 Senator's Contribution Award for his outstanding service to his community through volunteering.

Karim Damji (Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation Research Chair in Ophthalmology) is the recipient of the University of British Columbia's 2017 Global Citizenship Alumni Award for his outstanding international collaboration.


Congratulations to Andrew Mason (Co-Director, Centre for Excellence for Gastrointestinal Inflammation and Immunity Research) on being named the 2017 Primary Biliary Cholangitis Society of Canada's Outstanding Researcher.


Congratulations students Rahul Singla (first place), Simranjit Grewal (second place) and Katrien Clintberg (third place) in Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute's 2017 Brain Bee.

Rebekkah Hall also attended to receive her first place award for the 2016 competition. The UAlberta event coincides annually with the global Brain Awareness Week campaign. Special thanks to grad student Saad Yousuf for hosting and judging the event.


Congratulations to MD student Andree Vincent and EZreferral founder Denis Vincent (Family Medicine) on winning the very first Edmonton CNE Innovation Garage Competition.

Dentistry graduate student Yuli Berlin-Broner has been awarded the Motyl Graduate Studentship in Cardiac Sciences for research on oral health and cardiovascular disease.


Daniela Migliarese Isaac (pediatric resident) won the best clinical paper at the 2017 Postgraduate Medical Publication Prize from the University of Alberta Medical Staff Society.
