Welcome to the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences!

As Chair of the Department, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2024/25 academic year. Whether you are a returning member or new to our mathematics and statistics community at the University of Alberta, I am delighted to have you with us as we embark together on a new year of exploration, discovery, and academic growth.

Our department has long been a cornerstone of excellence in mathematics and statistics, known for fostering an environment where rigorous scholarship meets innovative thinking. This year, with a record number of new undergraduate and graduate students, we continue that tradition with a renewed commitment to cutting-edge research, collaborative learning, and impactful outreach.

For our undergraduate students, I encourage you to explore our diverse program offerings and research opportunities. Graduate students can find useful information on our Graduate Program Intranet. 

This academic year brings not only intellectual movement but also a physical one. Our department will be relocating from CAB to the new UCommons Building around May 2025. While this move presents challenges, it also opens up exciting opportunities. To learn more about the transition, join us at the Departmental Town Hall on September 17.
