University of Otago
The University of Otago is New Zealand's oldest university and a top-ranked research institution. Otago has extensive facilities; including a theatre, concert hall, gymnasium, audiovisual center, and information services center. It is the second southernmost university in the world with easy access to spectacular scenery and amazing recreation opportunities. The University of Otago also has an active student association and many societies and clubs for cultural, athletic, political, and academic interests.
This is an exchange that is available for students in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation and Augustana Campus students with a major in Physical Education.
Applicable Courses
The University of Otago offers a variety of courses (papers) in recreation, sport, and exercise science. Each semester is divided into Semester 1 (February-June) and Semester 2 (July-November). It's the individual's responsibility to research the programs and courses and to contact an advisor when program planning.
The University of Otago offers courses to exchange students in the following areas:
- Physical Education and Recreation
- Health Studies
- Tourism
Eligibility
Applicants must be registered as full-time University of Alberta students in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sports, and Recreation.
Applications may be submitted during the first year, but students will not be allowed to depart on the exchange until at least 12 credits have been completed by the KSR exchange application deadline. (March of each year)
Candidates should have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and a GPA of 2.7 in their most recently completed term at the University of Alberta.
Students in the practicum program are eligible to also participate in an exchange that is modified to be an international practicum placement. These must be coordinated at least 1 - 1.5 years in advance, as the paperwork for international practicums will be more complicated. Please talk to your practicum advisor for information.
Estimated Costs
University of Alberta tuition and fees for a single exchange term will be based on a standard 15-credit semester for undergraduate students. This will not change regardless of the number of courses taken at the host institution or the number of credits transferred back to the U of A after an exchange. Calculate tuition at the U of A on a 15-credit per term basis.
This applies to Fall and/or Winter term exchanges only. Costs for summer programs will vary. Please consult the coordinator for further information on summer exchanges.
