On Saturday, October 19, we welcomed a record breaking 10,300 future students (our largest event on record!) and their supporters to our annual Open House event in the Butterdome on North Campus, as well as at Campus Saint-Jean.

A few key highlights from the event include:

  • 99 special events and presentations across North Campus and Campus Saint-Jean
  • 136 tours guiding over 2,500 future students and guests across campus
  • 65 university exhibitors participated in the Butterdome Booth Fair, in addition to new interactive experience booths, such as the temporary tattoo station and the Green & Gold quiz
  • 171 Open House Ambassadors helped make this day happen!

Engineering
A huge thank you to the engineering student volunteers, staff and faculty members who led tours, presentations, demonstrations, activities, and talked to prospective students and their supporters!!

The engineering booth included a solid team of current engineering student volunteers thanks to the new Engineering Student Leaders program. We had 50 volunteers engaging with guests and leading various tours which offered a seamless guest experience. In addition, the faculty’s second year offering SOLD OUT of department tours!

“Open House displays were engaging and informative, the presentations were well-attended, the general tours were booked within an hour of day-of registration opening and all of the department tours were well-received and incredibly popular." said Alexis, from our recruitment team.

The Fem+ Engineering Mentorship Program also kicked off its sixth year with its Open House Breakfast. This year, there are 86 high school women, non-binary and 2SLGBTQ+ high school students in the program, including 39 engineering student volunteer mentors who were all invited to the breakfast to meet each other. They heard from Abby Paul, the co-lead of the program and PhD student (in civil and environmental engineering), on her journey to and through engineering.

A debrief meeting among the recruitment team and engineering representatives is on the afternoon of Friday, Nov 29 to further discuss the event and lessons learned.
